About us

Our play-based philosophy

The Lakeview Community Preschool is a learning community that offers our youngest community members' meaningful early educational experiences both in and out of the classroom. Our certified teachers and dedicated parent volunteers work together to infuse our spaces and programs with a sense of safety, comfort, and playfulness, allowing students to grow the social, emotional, physical and cognitive skills to thrive in kindergarten and beyond!

"Play is the highest form of research."

Albert Einstein

Our program has evolved out of a strong sense of community in Lakeview. In 1967, a young mother named Mrs. Blasken brought together families who were interested in creating opportunities for young children to develop their social skills with same-aged peers.  Parent volunteers began teaching out of the Lakeview Community Association until 1978, when certified teachers and a larger space were needed to meet growing demand for the program.

In 2007, our teachers and parent volunteer board designed and renovated a space at the Lakeview Baptist Church where we continue to offer licensed and regulated early childhood education programming year round. Today, our program continues to emphasize the important role parents and families play in the transition from toddler to kindergartner. Parent involvement in and out of the classroom empower their children to explore, inquire, create, experiment, and ultimately learn how to learn.

The design and renovation of our 1000 sq. ft. classroom at the Lakeview Baptist Church in 2007 centred around the early childhood educational goals of our community. In addition to our formal class space, our teachers and students have access to a gymnasium, green space, playground, kitchen and theatre! Teachers are encouraged to use and adapt these spaces throughout the year based on the unique interests and priorities of each class they teach.

Our preschool classes follow the Calgary Board of Education's traditional calendar. We offer the following the following class options to eligible families (see eligibility requirements for more information):

You will receive priority for registration. We are currently looking for three positions for 2023/2024 that help with marketing, fundraising and registration.
